San Diego Engagement Photo Shoot | Recent Favorites

We are often asked about the benefits of an engagement shoot, and its importance in the wedding process. We feel that an engagement shoot is the best and most powerful way to get to know your photographer. We learn a lot about you as a couple while shooting, like how the two of you interact, and the types of images that you are drawn to. Throughout your session, you’ll also see how we work, experience our creative approach, and have fun being photographed together :)

When choosing a shoot location, it is best to select a site that has a variety of nice backgrounds within walking distance. That way, you have a lot of different environments and poses to choose from, while being most efficient within the shoot time. We also recommend selecting a spot that is personally meaningful to you both. It could be the setting of your first date, or a favorite part of town where you love to hang out together. If there isn’t a specific area in mind, that’s ok :) We are happy to provide our best recommendations.

In addition to being a record of your pre-married life, your finished engagement photos can be used in a variety of ways. We’ve seen engagement photos featured in Save the Date cards, guest signing books, enlargements, personalized wedding websites, favors, and much more. Cedros Avenue Design District Engagement Shoot

For couples looking for a little bit of everything in their engagement photo shoot, we highly recommend Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach. Also referred to as the Cedros Design District, this street is a dream photo shoot location. A quick stroll down the sidewalk will take you by an assortment of boutiques, quirky sculptures, beautiful galleries, and fine jewelry shops. While you’re in the area, you can also enjoy a chic cafe, a local brewery, an urban winery, or the infamous Belly Up Tavern, all of which are within walking distance. There’s even a pop-up Farmers Market on Sundays.

Because Cedros Avenue runs parallel to Highway 101 along the coast, the beach is just steps away! If you want to walk along the sand, share a romantic moment, or splash in the waves, the beach at Fletcher Cove is a perfect spot. And there are lots of other natural settings nearby, such as a hidden grassy field, which is a great place to relax and unwind.

A Tranquil Summertime Engagement Photo Shoot at Sunset Cliffs | Lacy and Phil

Lacy and Phil are planning a very intimate wedding in front of the Hotel Del in Coronado, on the sand. In anticipation of their fall wedding, they opted for a beach engagement session at Sunset Cliffs, near Point Loma. We love Sunset Cliffs because of the variety of environments nearby. From lush woody pathways, to patches of desert succulents, to golden fields and rugged coastal cliffs — you can find it all!

During the shoot, we stumbled across a colorfully tagged wall. There was an old bottle of spray paint nearby, which we couldn’t resist using as an impromptu prop. Found objects like these are always fun to work with!

Also, the soon-to-be-weds had a chance to show off their muscles. First, Phil attempted to climb the cliff in his sandals, while hanging onto a rope. So Lacy upped the ante and pulled off the acrobatic “flag” move against a gnarled tree. Pretty impressive!

This Southern California couple was the epitome of relaxed, and we had a blast capturing them during their date at the beach. Take a look below at some of our favorite images from this tranquil engagement shoot. We look forward to photographing this happy couple come October!
